David E. Eisenhart

October 23, 1934 — November 14, 2015

David E. Eisenhart (1934 - 2015)

Our beloved husband and father, David Earl Eisenhart, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2015, after battling a long illness. He leaves his wife, Carole, of Uniontown, and two children, Bryan Eisenhart (Jill) and Karen Smith (Roy); and three step-children, Gayle Kimberly (Jeff), Michael Diener (Rhonda) and Kimberly Diener of Uniontown - to mourn his passing. He also leaves 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, good neighbors and friends - all grateful David was part of their lives.

Born in Akron, Ohio, on October 23, 1934, to Ethel (nee Graham) and Newton E. Eisenhart, Dave graduated from Buchtel High School, attended Akron University, and was a long time resident of the Akron, Medina, Uniontown area. David was the third of five children, preceeded in death by both his parents, brothers John G. "Jack" and Newton E. "Bud" Eisenhart, sister Judith J. Hughes and first wife, Betty (nee Geiger). He will continue to be fondly remembered by his sister, Mary Ellen Roberts (Hank) of Akron, OH, as well as sisters-in-law, Jean (Jack) of Snellville, GA, Judy (Bud) of Akron, and brother-in-law, Duane Hughes (Judy) of Albuquerque, NM, as well as former sister-in-law, Martha Violette (Chuck) of Tallmadge, OH.

Dave was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He absolutely loved, loved, loved to fish, and took great pleasure and pride in teaching his kids and grandkids how to catch the "really big ones" - Orca, as he called them! In addition to the yearly family fishing trips to La Tuque, Quebec Canada, one of the highlights of his fishing career was winning a lottery chance to Castalia Trout Farm, and reveling in reelin' in his limit alongside family and friends! He just never met a fish he didn't love to catch or eat!!!

Dave also had a great affinity for the water, and loved to go boating - whether captaining his own little skiff, exploring the Carolina Intercoastal on a dolphin tour, houseboating on Lake Cumberland or cruisin' the Caribbean - if it was on water, Dave was all in!!

As almost all in his family, David loved music - listening or singing -both were passions. In earlier years, he absolutely relished singing Handel's Messiah with the Medina County Chorus each year... .and his listening tastes ranged from the Doobie Brothers to the Bee Gees to Fleetwood Mac and Luciano Pavarotti - and he always firmly believed in singing along - with gusto!

Dave was also an avid nature and animal lover, and loved to feed and watch the birds. He was adamant, though - the food was only for the birds - so Heaven help any squirrel who tried to get on his bird feeder!!

Dave worked hard at Firestone early in his career, and traveled extensively over the years while working in the Plastics industry, selling resins for international custom compounders Teknor Apex and A. Schulman, among others. He acquired quite the discerning palate while on the road, but he could never wait to get home and enjoy a great home-cooked meal - and took great delight in becoming The GrillMaster and Supreme Apple Pie Baker in his retirement! At home, his tastes were simple - a good bowl of Clam Chowder and some Saltines, or some pecan Danish, and he was a happy man!

Dave also had a huge soft spot for many special four-legged family members over the years. He never met a dog he didn't like, and they always seemed to feel the same about him, keenly sensing he was a total pushover for petting! His many "grand-dogs" will miss him!

Dave's passing leaves a huge hole in our hearts. He was a wonderful father, husband, mentor and friend, and he will be missed more than we can say... but we take solace in knowing he's no longer in pain, and can once again do all the things he loved to do. Godspeed, our wonderful Friend... thanks for fighting the good fight. We'll hold you in our hearts every day, and see you again one day soon. Until then, cast off your bow line, and enjoy the fishing - the "really big ones" are bitin'!
