David Lee Feltner died peacefully at home on August 06, 2020 in Akron, Ohio, at the age of 73.
David is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Pamela Jean Feltner (née Pearce); son, Thomas Feltner; daughter-in-law, Lauren Reno and grandson, Auggie of Durham, North Carolina; as well as son, Brian Feltner of Traverse City, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his brother, Gabriel (Doc) and sister,
Elizabeth Raymond.
David was born in Evansville, Indiana, on August 15, 1946, to Gabriel and
Alberta Feltner (née Stevens). He worked his way through the University of
Evansville at the International Steel Company and graduated in 1969 with a
degree in mechanical engineering. Later that year, David and Pam relocated to Akron, Ohio, and David began work at the Babcock & Wilcox Company where he would spend the next ten years at the Barberton, Ohio, and New York City
offices. While working at B&W he earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron in 1975. In 1980, David began working at Ohio Edison, later
FirstEnergy, where he held positions as Associate General Counsel of the parent company as well as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of various
subsidiaries until his retirement in 2006.
David served on the boards of Portage Path Behavioral Health, Summit County Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Services, and the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a 2000 graduate of Leadership Akron. An avid boater, he served as President of the Turkeyfoot Island Club, and later on the Executive Committee of the Akron Sail and Power Squadron. In 2009 and 2010 he and Pam
circumnavigated the eastern United States along the Great Loop. He loved to fly fish out west and enjoyed the study of cryptography.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, August 14, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St. Akron, OH 44313. (The services will be live streamed on the Billow Company Facebook page.) Seating is limited, masks and social distancing are required.
