David Gough Gehring, Jr., 77, died November 19, 2021. He had recently retired from MassMutual after 45 years in sales.
Born in Louisiana on July 14, 1944 to Clara and David Gehring, he lived most of his life in Akron, Ohio graduating from Buchtel High School and Lincoln Memorial University, as well as attending OSU. His second date with his wife of 53 years was their Senior Prom. WABL was Dave’s first introduction to baseball, a sport he was active in throughout high school and on into college at OSU. He was a pitcher who coached girl’s softball and encouraged his oldest daughter to fast pitch for Litchfield Middle and Firestone High Schools. He volunteered many years of service as the treasurer for The Western Reserve Girl Scout Council. Golf, fishing for walleye, reading action thrillers and playing frisbee with his border collie in front of Resnik Elementary School were his passions.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, daughters Chris (Adam) Scheff and Anne (Brad) Reepmeyer, grandchildren Samantha and Leo Scheff, sister Gwynne (Dave) Homan and brothers-in-law Mike and Bruce Gates. His smile, his dedication to his weedless lawn and his love of the Celtic Woman Singers will be missed.
