David L. King, Jr., a devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away on May 15,2015 from complications following a fall. He was 87 years old and had lived a very rich life.
David was born in Philadelphia on October 18, 1927. He served his country twice; enlisting in the Navy in WWII and serving in the Army during the Korean War. David had a 42 year career at Firestone which included plant management roles before being named as the VP of International Manufacturing. After a move to Mohawk Tire and Rubber, Dave returned to Firestone as the VP of Manufacturing and Research.
His greatest joy was the love he found when he met his wife Liz. They enjoyed 25 years of adventure and happiness together. He created wonderful memories with his grandchildren to whom he was known simply as "Papa."
David is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth and her children Anne deBruin Sample (Michael) and David deBruin; as well as his sons David King, III (Mary); Stephen King (Lynne Miller). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Connor and Sean Sample; Elizabeth, Jack, Walter, and William deBruin; Ian and Milena King, Anna DeVries and Roger Groth; and a number of nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by first wife, Jacqueline King; his sister, Joyce Maffei; his brother, Timothy King and stepson Michael deBruin.
Dave was an elegant and sophisticated man who's sly wit and keen sense of humor delighted all who knew him. A long time member of Portage Country Club, he relished golfing with good friends and later played bridge weekly. A skillful storyteller who danced a mean jitterbug, he will always be loved and never forgotten.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
