David L Montgomery

October 23, 1949 — September 30, 2023

Akron

David Linn Montgomery, 73, of Akron, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on September 30th. Dave, more affectionately known by his daughter's as Dayba, and Dad by his son; lived a full life.

He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 23rd, 1949 to Samuel and Aileen Montgomery. He served active duty for the US Army from 1971-1978. During his lifetime, he worked in numerous fields, including hospital supply chain management, facilities management and as owner of his landscaping business.

Dave met the love of his life, Bonnie, in 1988 while working together at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, PA. Later in 1992, he wooed her by bringing her big balloons, stuffed animals, jewelry and soda pops. They fell in love and married on June 18th, 1994. With that wonderful day, came two daughters, Beatrice and Elizabeth. In 1997, Dave and Bonnie grew their family by welcoming their son, Stephen, into the world. In 2023, he became a grandfather to Wyatt Russell.

Everyone who knew Dave, knew he loved singing in the choir and playing the clarinet and steel drums. He loved spending time on the Great Lakes, visiting Amish Country for their family dinners and pie, and catching up on action movies while eating peanut M&Ms. When the holidays came around, Dave was ready and meticulously prepared the house for the occasion with decorations and lights- even winning awards from the city for his light displays.

Dave was always a busy man with a project on his mind. On an average day, you could find him working on a project around the house, tending the garden or chopping and preparing wood to warm the house with his wood burning stove during the winter months. He was an active member of Stow Community Church, devoting his time and skills to foster their community and volunteer as needed. In his spare time, you could find him rocking in his favorite chair watching the Western movies he grew up with and quoting a plethora of movie lines when the occasion was right.

Dave will always be remembered for his sense of humor, big heart and love for his family. He was always the first to show up and last to leave when he was needed by a loved one. Dave provided stability for his family and never missed a moment to show his unwavering support for his children's passions. For his children, the only way to describe Dave's presence is by the definition of unconditional love. His love had no conditions, no bounds, and there was nothing he would not do for his family.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Montgomery and his children, Beatrice (Eric) Krutel, Elizabeth Santinga (Anthony Cistone) and Stephen Montgomery and grandson, Wyatt Russell Krutel.

There will be a Memorial Service in remembrance of Dave's life, held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 11:30 am at Stow Community church (Address: 1567 Pilgrim Dr. Stow, OH 44224). In lieu of flowers, Dave would have wished for donations to be sent to Mackinac Associates (Mackinacassociates.com).
