David L Scharf

Rev. David L. Scharf, 94, passed into God's peace Oct. 29, 2013 in London, OH.

Born in Urbana, OH, he had been a resident of Akron since 1982. A U.S. Army veteran, Rev. Scharf was a graduate of Carthage College, Carthage, IL. He attended Ohio State University from 1941-1949 and was ordained at Zion Lutheran Church, St. Paris, OH on Feb. 13, 1949. He was pastor of St. Paris Covenant Lutheran Church, St. Paris, OH and St. John's Lutheran Church, Stony Ridge, OH. He was a director of Stewardship and American Missions for the Ohio Synod LCA 1963-1974, pastor of First Lutheran Church, Parkersburg, W. VA 1974-1984 and Assistant to the Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Akron, OH 1984-1994. After 1994 he became the Visitation Pastor.

Preceded in death by daughter, Jean Ann in 1982 and granddaughter, Kirsten Goss; Rev. Scharf is survived by wife Bonnie; son, Ray (Wanda) of London, OH; son-in-law, Frank Luther and his wife, Anne of Helenville, WI; grandchildren, F. David and Laura Luther, Amanda Kennedy, and Scott Scharf; and 5 great grandchildren.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Bishop Emeritus Robert Kelley and Rev. David Nevergall officiating. Interment at West Lawn Cemetery, Baltic, OH. Friends may at Trinity Lutheran Church 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and one hour before services. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Lutheran World Relief, c/o Trinity Lutheran Church, 50 N. Prospect St., Akron, OH 44304 or a charity of ones choice.
