David F. Wilson, 95, passed away peacefully November 20, 2018.
David grew up in East Akron. His father James could find no work in native Scotland, so he went to South America in search of a job. While there he heard of a new company called Goodyear in the United States and they were hiring. Arriving in the U.S. he did land a job with Goodyear and returned to Scotland to bring his family to Akron. Dave was born on April 14th, 1923, almost upon arriving on our shore. James found a home for the family within walking distance of his job, and so began their story of life in Akron.
David attended Akron Garfield High School, and helped support the family as a mail courier for the rubber companies before WWII. After graduation from Garfield, David hired on with Ohio Bell as a lineman. He was drafted by the US Army, and served in the Asiatic Pacific honorably. After the war, he went back to work at "The Bell" as a lineman. Dave worked his way up in the telephone company to become part of the administration, overseeing the sales and installation of communications in corporations and hospitals such as the Cleveland Clinic.
Dave volunteered throughout his lifetime and served organizations such as Goodwill, The Jaycees, The Summit County Health Board, and The Copley Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of the Copley Township Trustees, and Copley United Methodist Church.
David was a true gentleman; a devoted husband to his wife Evelyn, a wonderful father to Jimmy and Margaret, and a kind friend to all.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; son, James; his granddaughter, Sarah K. Bertsch; mother, Magdalene Wilson and father, James; sisters, Isabel Mack and Margaret Scrimgeour; and brother, Alex Wilson. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret (Michael) Lytz; step-granddaughter, Elisa (Jon) Pierson; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on MONDAY, November 26 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Chaplain Michael Shaub officiating.
