Dennis Tompkins

Dennis Tompkins, 88, passed away May 23, 2012.

Born in Byrdstown, Tenn., he lived most of his adult life in the Medina-Akron area. A 32nd degree mason, he was a member of Meridian Sun Lodge #69 F&AM. A devout Christian, he had been active with AA and had just celebrated 20 years of sobriety. Dennis was a machinist and a developer who built Dell Wood Estates.

Preceded in death by his wife, Fonzie Tompkins; parents, Wheeler and Lockey Tompkins; and son, Michael Perz; Dennis was the best father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who is survived by his son, Daniel (Teresa) Tompkins; daughter, Dell Tompkins; grandchildren, Jessica (Matt) Collier, Michael and Elizabeth Tompkins; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Alaina and Emily Collier; long time companion, Nellie Dillon; and his friends at his East Akron Homegroup of AA.

Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., TUESDAY from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m. WEDNESDAY. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406 or Summit County Children's Services, 264 S. Arlington St., Akron, OH 44306.
