Dick Hoover
Dick Hoover, 79, passed away September 17, 2009 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Roseville, Ohio, he lived most of his life in Akron. As a bowler, he set the standards high for everyone. At the age of 16, he shot a record series of 847. He was the first person to win back to back Masters Titles in 1956-57. He teamed with Glen Allison to win the ABC Classic Doubles in 1962. He won ABC Classic Team titles in 1964 with the Falstaff Team and in 1966 with the Ace Mitchell Shur Hook Team. Dick was instrumental in starting the Professional Bowlers Association. His accomplishments are highlighted as he is a member of numerous Halls of Fames: United States Bowling Congress, Ohio State, Summit County, Tri-County and Medina County. He was selected as the greatest bowler in Summit County History and honored by the Summit County Sports Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW Club. Dick and his wife own and operate Dick Hoover Lanes in Brunswick, Ohio. In addition to bowling, he enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing and lived life to the fullest spending time with his family and friends.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joni; sons, Alan Stacey, Marty Lee Ann; daughters, Jennifer Nino Piccoli, Marie Anthony; grandchildren, Addison, Ty and Trent, Vincent and Alexis, Zach and Trevor; sister, Shirley Householder; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., SUNDAY, September 20th from 1 to3 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. MONDAY PLEASE NOTE THE TIME CHANGE at St. Vincent Catholic Church, 164 W. Market St., Akron with Rev. Fr. Joseph H. Kraker officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Donations may be made to any First Merit Bank for the Dick Hoover Scholarship Fund.
