Don M Stephens

January 2, 1931 — August 31, 2011

Don M. Stephens, 80, beloved husband and father, went to be with the Lord on August 31, 2011.

Born January 2, 1931, in Akron, Ohio, he served in the Air Force and received an Honorable Discharge. Don and his family spent the better part of their lives living in Northampton Township where he served as a trustee, a volunteer fireman, and co-owned Stephens Insurance Company with his brother, Paul. He was also the co-founder and the first president of the Northampton Rotary Club, and remained a member all his life. He served as Summit County Commissioner, was elected president of the Akron Regional Development Board, where he served 10 years, and finished his long and illustrious career as a Marketing Manager and Consultant for the Environmental Design Corp.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Lucile; beloved son, David; parents, Jeanette and Paul Stephens. He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Denny Yanik of Avon Lake, Ohio; granddaughter, Shaunti of Los Angeles, California; sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Ron Lopeman of Munroe Falls, Ohio; brother-in-law, Fred Snook of Gaylord Michigan; many nieces and nephews; and had a special place in his heart for Mike and Barbara Bartlett of Georgia, and their granddaughter Samantha, who always brought a smile to his face.

Don was an avid fisherman and golfer, but loved being with his family and friends the best, telling his adventurous, and often humorous stories of his wonderful life experiences and travels. He built several homes after living in the house he built with loving care in Northampton, and spent his last years at St. Mary's of the Woods in Avon, Ohio, where he was richly loved and cared for by their wonderful staff. Don loved spinning a tale and had many to tell from his travels all over the world and his wonderfully disarming way of inter-acting with whomever he met. His legacy and the many family and friends he left will always shine bright in fond memories.

Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 10th at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd St., Cuyahoga Falls, with Pastor Lynn Warner officiating. Private inurnment at Northampton Cemetery. Friends may call 12 to 2 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. If desired, memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Woods, 35755 Detroit Rd., Avon, OH 44011. Billow FALLS Chapel
