On Saturday, December l2, 2009, Donald C. Brown went home to be with the Lord.
Born in Akron, Ohio on April 14, 1928, he was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Jessie Louise Brown. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ida M. Ostrander; daughter, Kimberly Ann Brown Kent; sons, Donald J. Brown Dawn Lynch and Scott Alan Brown Dolly; brothers, Rodger Alan Brown Pat, Thomas Paul Brown; sisters, Catherine Elizabeth Drinan and Marjorie Ann John Versaickas. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Kirk Stuart Brown, Kelsey Anne Brown, Courtney Marie Brown and Maria Elizabeth Brown. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins and a very special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Allan and Goldie Ostrander.
He graduated from Central High School and then signed a contract with the Chicago Cubs Minor League Baseball Team as a pitcher before coming home and starting his own business. He was owner-operator of the Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Stores in the Akron area until he retired. Don was a member of the Chapel and the Summit County Baseball Hall of Fame. Don loved his family and we will all miss his loving heart and quick wit.
We wish to thank all of the kind and caring people at Sumner on Ridgewood, City Hospital, Barberton Regency Hospital and Hospice on Ridgewood. They were all patient and gentle as he battled physical and mental disabilities. Also, we were so blessed with the care that his brother, Tom, gave him.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. Eloy Pacheco officiating. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home 2 hours before services. Memorials may be made to Akron Pregnancy Services or Haven of Rest Ministries.
