Donald A. Cope
Donald A. Cope, 85, of Akron, passed away April 14, 2016 after a brief illness.
He was born in Akron to Ruth Troutman Cope and Arthur Cope on January 20, 1931. He graduated from Buchtel High School in 1948. He went on to achieve a degree in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University, graduating in 1952. After serving 2 years in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, he returned to Akron and in 1956 he opened Cope Pharmacy in Manchester (New Franklin) where he worked until his death.
Don was a 32nd degree Mason, past President of Summit County chapter of the American Cancer Society, past President of the Summit County Pharmacists Association, served on the Board of Directors of the Exchange Bank of Canal Fulton, served on the Manchester Local School Board for 8 years, a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, an avid traveler and golfer.
Don is survived by his children, Matthew Cope, Allyson (Ron) Cottier, Mark (Gina) Cope, Gretchen (Matt) Birch; longtime family friend, Dr. Valdecir Padovan; and grandchildren, Sam, Nick, Olivia, Daniel, and Sophia Cope, and Adam and Blake Birch.
A memorial service will be held 12 p.m. Friday, April 22nd at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 50 N. Prospect St., Akron, where friends may call 10 am - 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haven of Rest or a charity of your choice. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
