Donald Gray Corbett

Donald Gray Corbett , 92, of Hudson, formerly of Akron passed away on May 8, 2024. Donald was born in Akron, Ohio on December 25, 1931 to the late John and Margaret Corbett.

He earned the highest rank in Boy Scouts-Eagle Scout Award and earned the Litchfield Award in 1949, assuring him of a job for life with Goodyear. While in high school, he joined the inactive Naval Reserves and was discharged to go into the Air Force ROTC in college, before becoming active duty in the Air Force. He remained in the reserves for several years, attaining the rank of Captain.  He graduated from the University of Akron with a bachelor's and a master's degree in electrical engineering. He earned the highest score in the state on the engineering exams the year he graduated. He started his 41 year career at Goodyear in 1955, where one of the highlights of his career was the development of the missile guidance system for the Pershing II missile.

He started his 68 year marriage to Wilma (Billie) Maxson with a 2 year tour of duty in Japan, where his first 2 children were born. He enjoyed trips to Lake Cumberland and boating and skiing with his family. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends after retirement.

He was preceded in death by his son David.  He is survived by his wife Billie, daughter-in-law Tami, daughters Donna Nold (Bob) and Connie Powers (Scott), 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 12 PM on Tuesday May 14, 2024 at the Billow Funeral Home 85 N. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, Ohio 44333. Family and friends may visit from 10-12 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at 1:45 PM at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
