Donald W. Dilley
Donald W. Dilley, born Sept. 6, 1922 to Willis W. and Hazel Kendle Dilley, died Dec. 8, 2008 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease and it's complications.
A life long Akron resident, Don graduated from North High School in 1940. He attended Akron University where he was initiated into Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. While at Akron U., Don competed as a member of the '41-'42 national championship Pershing Rifle team and proudly wore his Akron U letter sweater which was finally awarded in the year 2000.
Don served as a pilot in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from the Naval Reserve in 1969, attaining the rank of Lt. Commander.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Don volunteered with the Boy Scouts and Maple Valley Little League. He held a strong belief in helping others and was always ready to lend a hand and one of his many tools to help family, friends and neighbors.
Don spent his entire professional career with Goodyear Aerospace, retiring after 34 years of service. He highly recommended retirement and spent it traveling with his wife and friends.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Esther Anderson; son, David Lessia of Dayton; daughters, Diane Pyle of Heath, Donna Larry Lupton of Columbus, Denise Kevin Schaffner; grandchildren, Lynsey, Curtis, Alison, Zachary, David, Shelby, Shannon, Erick, Kendall; and great-grandchild, Chase.

Services will be held 10 a.m. FRIDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Pastor David L. Scharf officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park with military honors by Copley V.F.W. Post 7971 and American Legion Post 473. Friends may call at the funeral home today 4 to 8 p.m. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 50 N. Prospect St., Akron 44304.
