Donald B. Heslop, 94, passed away on April 5, 2017.
Mr. Heslop was born on October 11, 1922 in Marietta, Ohio, the son of Isabelle and H. Gale Heslop. He moved to Zanesville, Ohio at an early age and graduated from Zanesville High School. He graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 607th Tank Destroyer Battalion in Europe and was a Prisoner of War of the Germans for nine months and was held in Stalag VII-A in Mooseburg, Germany.
Mr. Heslop was President of the Permanent Federal Savings and Loan Association with 35 years service. His community service included Past Chairman of Summit County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Board Member of the United Way of Summit County, and President of Akron Rotary Club. He was a member of First Congregational Church of Akron.
Preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Ann; he is survived by sons, Bruce (Julie) and Tim (Cheryl) Heslop; granddaughters, Cindy (Travis) Kooy, Mandy (Joel) Douglas and Katie (Mike) Hearn; great grandchildren, Ian Kooy, Amelia and Caroline Douglas, Andrew and Reagan Hearn; and brother, Mac (Almeda) Heslop of Birmingham, Alabama.
Memorial service will be held 12 Noon WEDNESDAY, April 12th at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. Nanette Pitt officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army at the conclusion of the service.
