Donald I. Smith, 70, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on September 20, 2012 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Hamtramck, Michigan, he lived the last 27 years in Bath. Don retired as the manager of M.P. & L. from the Ford Motor Company in 1997 after 35 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Army and was a judge and breeder of German Shepherds.
Preceded in death by his mother, Bessie; father, Ivory Smith; survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ingrid; son, Donald II (fiancé Shannon Keeling; children, Canaan Keeling, Daylon Keeling); daughter, Babet Rozek; daughter-in-law, Simone Day; grandchildren, Donald Day, Marcel Rozek, Dezmond Rozek and Eden Smith; brothers, Jimmy and Kenny; sister, Faye; sister-in-law, Astrid; and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Minister David Thomas will conduct the memorial service to be held 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 28th at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron. In lieu of flowers, should family and friends desire, memorials may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 or www.pancan.org .
