Doris I. Rooney, 93, died December 19, 2013.
Born in Akron, June 19, 1920 to Dudley and Lulu Moore Maxon, she was a graduate of the Ohio State University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She had served on the Women's Board of Akron General Medical Center and was a former member of the Junior League of Akron and Portage Country Club. Doris was passionate in her support of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Conservancy.
Preceded in death by her parents and husband, George W. Rooney; she is survived by her daughter, Catherine Ann Moone of Fairlawn; sons, Thomas D. (Barbara) Rooney of Chagrin Falls and George W. (Eileen) Rooney, Jr. of Akron; grandchildren, Richard (Heather) and Sean Moone, Kelsey and Cara Rooney , Christopher (Erin) Rooney, Erin (Michael) Wilson, Patrick (Veronica) and Meghan Rooney, Jason (Lauren) and Christopher Rigby; great-grandchildren, Sean Albert, Meredith, Jack, Claire, Ian, Gavin, Dylan and Kendall.
A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. MONDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Dr. Donard M. Engle officiating. Private inurnment at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Conservancy, 1403 Hines Hill Rd., Peninsula, OH 44264 ( www.conservancyforcvnp.org ).
