Doris L Rucker

November 1, 1921 — December 19, 2010

Doris L. Rucker, 89, passed away December 19, 2010 at The Village at StEdward after a period of declining health.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Patricia Richard Morgan of Medina and Rebecca Mark Manis of Williamstown, Ky.; grandsons, William Morgan of Springfield Twp and David Morgan of Medina; sister, Barbara John Stefany of Tampa, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee J. Myers and Esther Hartz Myers; brother, Robert L Myers and sister, Eleanor Jane.

Doris was born and raised in Akron, graduating from South High School and Kent State University. She was devoted to her family, her church and her community. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for over 55 years where she sang in the choir, served on numerous committees and church boards and was an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary Board of The Summit County Children's Home for over 50 years, serving as President from 1970 -1972. She served as a poll worker and precinct judge for many elections.

Doris was an avid bridge player. She was also a talented seamstress and excelled in creating beautiful needlework art. Doris could best be described as the life of the party. She loved to entertain and never missed an opportunity to socialize with friends and family. She thoroughly enjoyed the eight years she lived at The Village at StEdward.

Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to Society For Handicapped Citizens Special Olympics, 4283 Paradise Road, Seville, Ohio 44273 or the charity of your choice.

Her family is grateful to the staff at the Village of StEdward and Summa Hospice for the loving care she received.
