Dorothy Jean Butler (Schweiker)

Dorothy Jean, known to all as Jean, passed away December 6, 2020 at the age of 93, due to complications from Alzheimer’s and Covid-19.

Born in Akron, Ohio on January 18, 1927, to Bess Jensen Schweiker and Fred Schweiker, Jean lived in Akron all her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of nearly 30 years, Ronald; brother, Carl Schweiker; and sisters, Helen Globits Lapham (Jack) and Betty Peterman (Kenneth).

She is survived by her children, Richard Alan Butler (Margo Snider), Deborah Ann Gottas; grandchildren, David Thomas Gottas, Katie Lynn Gottas (Jimmy McGee) and several nieces and nephews.

Jean graduated from East High School and worked at Goodyear and Firestone for several years. Jean was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church. She spent many years volunteering for AARP, American Legion Auxiliary, American Red Cross, Blood Mobile, Brecksville V. A. Hospital, Church Women United of Akron, Faith Lutheran Church, and Multiple Sclerosis Society. She did much traveling the past 40 years.

The family would like to thank the staff at Greenfield Estates Alzheimer’s Special Care Center and Crossroads Hospice for the loving care Jean received during her illness. A special thank you to Karin Allen for her years of loyal friendship.

Due to Covid-19, private services were held with interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the above organizations.
