Dorothy B. Hammond, 87, passed away March 24, 2009.
Born in Waynesburg, Ohio to Russell and Florence Burkhart, she lived all of her life in Akron. She was a member of St. John St. Paul Lutheran Church, Akron General Women's Board, a former member of the Children's Home Board, and she was a volunteer at the Akron General Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Finley in 1980 and granddaughter, Karin Jane Bratka in 2004. She is survived by daughters, Lee Ken Sherman, Susan Greg Tillman, Jane Hammond; son, Mark Robert Hammond; grandchildren, Jennifer Todd Boiarski, Emily Nic Pronga, Finley Hammond, Robert Hammond, Laura Bob Hughes, Jonathan Sherman; great-grandchildren, William Kenneth Hughes, Kaden Nicholas Pronga, Kaleb Thomas Pronga; and many other loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron. Inurnment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call from 12 to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Louisa May Alcott's Orchard House, P.O. Box 343, Concord, MA 01742.
