Dorothy Hermanns

January 16, 1909 — March 24, 2012

Dorothy Hermanns, 103, went home to be with our Lord on March 24, 2012.

Born in Saar-brucken, Germany in 1909, she immigrated to Akron in 1928. There she met her beloved husband, Otto, an engineer from Hannover, Germany at English classes at the International Institute.

She was a kind and generous person to her family, friends and community, often putting others' needs ahead of her own. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be deeply missed.

Dorothy, in prior years, was a member of The Akron Woman's City Club, the Engineering Auxiliary, a volunteer at Stan Hywet Hall and the International Institute. She was deeply involved in many positions in her former church, The First United Church of Christ, and was a dedicated Sunday School teacher there for many years.

Preceded in death by her dear husband, Otto, in 1966, and two sons-in-law, Arthur Kovesdy and Otto Schellin, she is survived by daughters, Anne Marie Schellin of Akron and Elfriede Kovesdy Baribault (Richard) of Rocky River and Florida. Surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Arthur Kovesdy and Dr. Jeffrey Kovesdy (Cheryl) of Rocky River, Otto Schellin (Susan) of Pittsburgh, Brad Schellin of Port Clinton, and Laura Schellin Kress (James) of Chagrin Falls. She leaves her adored great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kara, Matthew, Jacob, Maxwell and Grace Kovesdy, as well as Paul, Elise, Elizabeth, Alexandra, and David Schellin and Sam and Charlie Kress.

The family would like to thank Rockynol for its wonderful loving care and compassion of our "Oma" over the years. Also thanks to Senior Independence Hospice staff for their comforting care in her final days.

Service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 30 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Dr. Donard M. Engle and Rev. Diane Walker officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time. Interment will be at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rockynol Foundation, 1150 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313; Senior Independence Hospice, 1250 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313; the International Institute, 207 E. Tallmadge Ave., Akron 44310; or the charity of your choice .
