Dorothy Wallace Nagy

AKRON, OHIO-Dorothy Wallace Nagy, loving mother, devoted friend, lover of chocolate covered orange peels and cherries, dog lover and bird-watcher extraordinaire passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013. Dorothy was a refined, graceful woman who left an indelible mark on those who knew her.
She was born to the late Marion Riddell Wallace on January 28, 1918, in Akron, Ohio. Dorothy graduated from Ellet High School in 1936 and attended Buchtel College where she was active in Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and met the love of her life - Joe Nagy. She was married to the late Colonel Joseph Nagy in 1938 by Dr. Walter F. Tunks at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, where they lived together in Hartville and Akron, Ohio.
While living in Hartville, Dorothy and Joe owned and operated Nagy's IGA Foodliner.
Prior to and during World War II, Dorothy served as a "Gray Lady of the American Red Cross" assisting wounded soldiers. She was passionate about making a difference in the lives of those wounded in battle in both World Wars. In the 1950s, she served as the President of the Hartville Chapter of the Federation of Women's Clubs. She also served as the President of the Sorosis Club of Hartville from 1957 to 1959. In the 1960s, she served as the President of the Reserve Officers Association Ladies Auxiliary for the state of Ohio. She discovered the nobility and importance of service to others as a longstanding member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She was especially proud of her Zeta White Violet 75-year recognition pin.
Dorothy enjoyed attending "Tuesday Musicals" and playing bridge with her close circle of friends. She was an active member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church and the Women's City Club.
Dorothy cherished her children: Dr. William W. Nagy (Patti) of Dallas, Texas, Barbara Blazer (Phillip) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Richard Nagy (Cindy) of Westmont, Pennsylvania. She also adored her five grandchildren: Zachery Blazer, Dr. Richard Nagy, Kristina Nagy, Joseph Nagy and Nolan Blazer. She also adored her always faithful Scottie - Tavish McDuff.
Services will be held 11 a.m. SATURDAY in the Chapel of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with Rev. Amjad Samuel officiating. Private interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., FRIDAY from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stephen Ministry at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 W.
