Dorothy Jean (McNabb) Powell, 86, died Nov. 15, 2013.
She was born Nov. 15, 1927 to Arthur William and Bertie McMurtrey McNabb in Nocona, Texas. She was a graduate of Kilgore College and also attended Joliet Junior College and the University of Indiana. During Jean's life, she lived in Texas, Tennessee, Wyoming, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri, Alaska, and Wisconsin. After both her children were in school, she returned to work in the banking industry, which she had begun after college. In 1992, she retired from the position of President and Director, Heritage 1st National Bank of Lockport, Illinois.
Throughout her life, she volunteered in civic, church, and community activities. Her professional memberships included Business and Professional Women and the National Association of Bank Women. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa academic honor society. Locally, she was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and had participated in the Bath Good Times Club and Akron AARP Chapter. Her interests and hobbies included antiques, the stock market, and travel. In her words, she "had enjoyed a great life."
Preceded in death by husband of 45 years, Robert E. Powell, whom she married April 16, 1948 after he completed service in the Navy in World War II and he died May 17. 1995; and brother Jackson McNabb; she is survived by children, Elizabeth J. Stroble of St. Louis and Patrick V. Powell of Las Vegas; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren, sister, Charlotte Braswell of Indianapolis ; and dear friend and companion, William Woodall of Bath.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Jean Hansen officiating. There are no calling hours.
