Dorothy Martha Thomson, 106 years, 4 months, 6 days, went home to be with the
Lord Jesus Christ on October 28, 2017.
Born June 22, 1911, to Robert and Mabel (Inscho) Kaiser in Columbus, Ohio, she attended Ohio State University and was a story teller at the Public Library in Columbus.
In 1924 she married Gilbert Thomson of Cuyahoga Falls and lived on Oakwood Drive across from the cemetery. They started a neighborhood Gospel outreach for children. In 1956 they moved to Wetmore Road, but now reside in heaven: "Absent from the body, present with the Lord."
Dorothy did much volunteer work with the Akron area Arthritis Foundation, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Gospel visitation at several local nursing facilities, as well as teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. Scrap craft was her expertise - converting trash to treasures! She spent time in India helping missionaries relocate a gospel literature book shop and visiting various schools. Dorothy loved people and was well known for her SMILE!
She loved to sing and in Columbus before marriage won a contest for singing the National Anthem the loudest and another contest as "Best Looking Couple" with brother Bob! She won a newspaper naming contest, WEST SIDE TIMES, as the West corridor of Cuy. Falls was developing in the late 40's. After her husband's death in 1967, she worked as an Educational Aid for the Boston School district, certified by the State of Ohio.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; her son, James; and great grandson-in-law, Dustin Curtis. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Thomson and Jane (Travis) Smith and their children: Travis, Jr. (Janice) Smith, Linda (Paul) Renaud, Lisa (Sterling) Renaud, Laura VandeKrol, Libby (Ben) Bauman, David (Tammy) Smith, Jonathan (Elizabeth) Smith, Suzanne (Andy) Pannelle, and daughter-in-law, Nancy Thomson and her children, Nathan (Shelly) Thomson, and Natalie (Peter) Buchanan; 27 great grandchildren with 13 spouses and 23 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, November 4th at 11 o'clock at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd St., Cuyahoga Falls, 44223 with burial following at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. FRIDAY and one hour before services Saturday. (Billow FALLS Chapel)
