Dorothy (Dot) Jane Kiefer, 90, of Copley passed away on February 14, 2021. She was born in Bath, Ohio on August 24, 1930, preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Margaret Fundak, brothers Louis, William, Frank, and sister Alice, and survived by her loving and devoted husband Gene Kiefer of 64 years in marriage; daughter Rhonda Kiefer; sons Thomas (Deb) Kiefer and David (Dina) Kiefer; grandchildren Joy, Joshua, Jill, Jessica, Breanna, and Brooke; four great grandchildren; many loving nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Dot graduated from Bath School in 1948 and Idabelle Firestone School of Nursing in 1952. She was a source of peace and encouragement bedside for thousands of patients right before their surgeries during her 40 years working in the operating rooms at Akron City Hospital, where she also taught incoming nursing students.
A longtime active member of the Chapel on Fir Hill, Dot loved the Lord and demonstrated His love through her care and generosity to everyone. She loved people and she loved talking with them. She always said "you'll never be lost as long as you can talk." She knew how to set people at ease and she knew how to have fun.
Dot loved to play board games and cards (especially euchre--she taught her grandchildren well!) and was a member of several card groups. She helped teach her children and grandchildren how to swim. She loved all the animals and birds in her life. She also enjoyed gardening, singing in church choirs, attending a longtime Monday night Bible study, and watching her Cleveland and Ohio State sports teams compete. But above all, she loved being with her family, friends, and Sunday school classmates.
While she enjoyed traveling, she was a homebody who loved her home and community. She was a member of the Bath Historical Society, nursing school alumni committee, Red Cross volunteer nurse, and worked several decades as an election pollworker. In everything she did, Dot was a hard worker. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
