The pipes are calling. Douglas Callander , age 85, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024. His final days were spent in the presence of his loving family, with a bagpiper playing a selection of his favorite songs, calling home this proud Scottish man.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Dawn; their sons, David and Jonathan; granddaughters, Chloe and Grace, and his brother, Leonard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Agnes Callander, and his brothers, Robert and Ian.
Doug was born on June 1, 1938, in Dumfries, Scotland and relocated to Birmingham, England where he met his wife. He then pursued his doctorate and relocated with Dawn to the United States in 1966 and they settled in Akron, Ohio to raise their family. Doug spent his career as a research chemist with Goodyear, Shell, and he retired from MG Polymers. He loved playing, coaching, and watching both tennis & football (soccer); and continued to play both until the years became too stubborn for these pursuits. He was a kind, loving, and patient man and he showed this with everything he did for his entire life. His strong love and devotion to his family can best be described by the words inscribed on his family crest of Clan MacFarlane - "This I'll Defend."
