Dr. Louis W. Brasaemle

May 25, 1931 — December 13, 2024

Dr. Louis W. Brasaemle, born in 1931 in Akron, OH, passed away from natural causes at the age of 93 on December 13, 2024 in Akron, OH. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Joan; his children, Karla, Dawn (Ken Roberts), and Bruce (Linda) and grandchildren, Nicole and Linnae.

Lou was a child of Frank and Emma Brasaemle, and grew up in North Hill, OH, attending North High School. His family lived in Argentina temporarily during Lou’s teen years, so he also attended The American School in Buenos Aires for a spell.

After graduating with the North High class of ’49, Lou went to the Ohio State University, where he met and fell in love with a young woman named Joan Lemponen.

The next few years got busy, as Lou attended Dental School, enlisted in the armed service, and got married, all before an honorable discharge as a Captain from the US Army, and a return to the Akron area to start his own dental practice.

Lou and Joan settled in Fairlawn, OH, where they raised their three children, Karla, Dawn and Bruce. The family enjoyed regular vacation adventures to beautiful places like the incredible US National Parks. They taught their children to love nature and value conservation. Lou continued to serve local families in his clinic for decades, until his retirement at the age of 82!

Lou was a lifetime activist with the Sierra Club, and was the chairperson for the Portage Trail Group for several years. After the children grew up and went off on their own adventures, the couple moved into the woods in Copley, where they enjoyed sharing their beautiful home with family and friends. They took classes and competed in ballroom dance for several years, enjoyed vacations to the Jazz and Heritage Fest in New Orleans and visiting vineyards in the wine country of California, and continued to cheer for the Buckeyes.

Lou was a moderator of the Unitarian Universalist Church congregation, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the East Akron Community House and was the editor of the Akron Dental Society bulletin.

Lou will be remembered for his kind disposition, his devotion to the planet, his commitment to his patients, and his love for his family.

The family will be planning a memorial celebration which will be held in the Spring.
