Dr. Andre M. Fritz
, 84, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2023, with family by his side. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. Andre is survived by his beloved wife, Tilla Theus, as well as his former spouse Elsbeth O’Connor (Stuber) and their four children Jane Poteet (Ken), Simon Fritz, Patrick Fritz (Patricia) and Philip Fritz (Kristy); including eight grandchildren. Andre was born to Arthur Fritz and Marcella Ravasio Cargasaggi on April 7, 1939, in Zurich, Switzerland. He is survived by his three brothers Reto Fritz (Doris), Beat Fritz (Alessandra), and Claudio Fritz (Amarilli) and his stepmother Bice Fritz.
Andre served as a Lieutenant in the Swiss Army before becoming a proud naturalized US citizen. He was a lifelong member of the Utonia fraternity in Zurich and enjoyed the academic, social, and fencing aspects. Andre graduated from ETH Zurich, a prominent research university in Switzerland, receiving his PhD in Chemistry in 1967. He immigrated to the US with his former wife and began his career at Dupont in Wilmington, Delaware 1967-1974. From 1975-1978, he worked at Ciba Geigy in Lansing, Michigan and later transferred to their New York office from 1978-1980. In 1980, Andre served as the Director of European Operations for the Ferro Corporation in Rotterdam, Netherlands from 1980-1990. In 1990, he moved his family back to the US and settled in Akron, Ohio as the president / co-owner of Multibase, a plastics company. In 2002, he moved back to Zurich, Switzerland and married his current wife, Tilla Theus. Andre is a member of the National Inventor’s Hall of Fame for his pioneering work in polymer science with numerous patents. He loved his work and excelled in the plastics industry.
Andre was an avid sailor and tennis player. He enjoyed sailing competitively in regattas on the weekends with his children as co-captains. Andre always had a thirst for adventure and knowledge and traveled to see the Seven Wonders of the world with his wife.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023, at 6 PM at Billow Funeral Home, 85 N. Miller Rd; Fairlawn, OH 44333.
