Dr. Donald C. Snyder, 98, passed away on November 23, 2008.

He was born in Fredericksburg, Holmes County, Ohio July 11, 1910, the son of a sharecropper. He was raised in Medina County, graduating from Medina High school in 1929. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1932 and Western Reserve School of Medicine in 1936. He spent four years postgraduate residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at University Hospitals of Cleveland and Metropolitan General Hospital. He married his college sweetheart, Courtney Fulton in 1937. They moved to Akron in 1940 to begin his practice. He became very involved in improving the health care of women, both during pregnancy, and throughout their lives. He helped to train young doctors in this field, both locally, and by his involvement in the Akron and Cleveland Obstetrics and Gynecology Societies, and by his participation on the National Council of American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was a program participant for eighteen consecutive years at the National meetings of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and was a long time member of Akron Rotary Club. He was a member of Bath Church for many years.

He leaves behind, his wife of 71 years, Courtney Fulton Snyder; four daughters, Sue Bowen of Akron, Judy Hankins of Medina, Laurel McClaren of Aurora, Colorado, and Cynthia Grimm of Oak Island, North Carolina; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a wonderful and caring husband and father and was dearly loved and cherished by his family. He will be greatly missed.
