Dr. John “Jack” Lorin Kimberly , beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away on June 11, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 83.
Jack was born on Jan 27, 1939 in Akron, where he resided all his life, to Elton and Ruth Kimberly, the eldest of four brothers. He attended Buchtel High School, Wooster College, and Ohio State University Dental School, where he graduated cum laude in 1965 as a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the National Dental Honor Society. It was there that he met his wife of 56 years, Cheryl (Logan). They were married in 1966.
Jack was a Captain in the Air Force where he served as a dentist from 1965-67 at Westover Air Force Base. He started his dental practice in 1967 in Akron, and continued until he retired in 2004. He was a member of the Akron Dental Society and the Ohio Dental Society. Jack was loved by his patients and took great pride in his work.
Jack will always be remembered as a devoted husband, an incredible father and grandfather, a loving brother, a loyal and generous friend, and a “car guy”. He was well known for his collection of classic cars, and volunteered at the Crawford Auto Museum, was a member of and helped to found the Henry Ford Piquette Avenue Auto Plant Museum, and was a member of the Henry Ford Heritage Association and Henry Ford Fairlane Association. He had a talent for fixing anything mechanical, and was happiest when working on a carburetor, or discussing cars with his friends and fellow “car nuts”. He also had a lifelong passion for music and played the trombone in the Akron Big Band for 52 years. He adored his family, and they shared wonderful times together, including Model A Ford rides in the summer, vacations at Cape Cod and Disney World, and trips to car shows at Greenfield Village in Michigan.
Jack is survived by his wife Cheryl, daughters Jill (Aaron) and Beth (Trevor), grandchildren Samantha and Kyle, brothers Ray (Sherrie) and Tom (Samantha), and his nieces and nephews, as well as his many good friends.
