Edna Elaine Mcintyre

October 4, 1920 — April 14, 2015

Edna Elaine McIntyre, age 94, of Akron, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, April 14, 2015 at Hospice Care Center. Born October 4, 1920 in Marion, Ohio; she was the daughter of Edwin Fay and Rosanna (nee Schotte) Davis.
Survivors include her loving children: Rose McIntyre of Cleveland Heights, Edwin McIntyre of Akron, and Patricia (Lee) Lavoie of Munroe Falls; her dear grandsons: Kevin (Cindy) Lavoie of Canal Fulton, Keith and Jeffrey Lavoie of Munroe Falls; and great-grandchildren Kasey and Lucy Lavoie of Canal Fulton. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Joseph, dear son James F., and her dear brother William Cloyce.
Elaine graduated from Buchtel High School in 1937, and the University of Akron in 1941 with a BA in Education, majoring in French. She was employed by Summit County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities; she was a teacher at Weaver School before her retirement. She loved children and was awarded the Senior Ohio MRDD Teacher of the Year in 1967.
She was active in many organizations over the years, some of these include: the Akron Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as past regent; Ezekial Richardson Chapter of Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, where she served as past chaplain; Portage Trail/Commodore Perry Chapter of the U.S. Daughters of 1812; Bryn Mawr Welsh Club, where she served as past president; as well as past president of the local Business and Professional Women.
She was a faithful member of the Woodland United Methodist Church where she taught Bible school, sang in the choir, and was a member of United Methodist Women; she participated in various community service activities, as well as went on a mission trip to Haiti where she worked with children.
Elaine had a full and rewarding life. When her mother died, when she was just 6 years old, she came to Akron and was raised by her aunt. A member of the "Greatest Generation" she had many memories including those of the Great Depression and World War II. She had an active curiosity and a love for music and reading. She had been a member of the Akron Symphony Chorus. She enjoyed public speaking and providing programs to various groups. She traveled to 17 foreign countries, mostly with her husband Joe, who was a violinist, so she enjoyed going with him to events where he performed. She even rode a camel in Israel! She loved and taught French.
Friends will be received at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron, Ohio, 44333 on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 10:00AM until the service to celebrate her life which will begin at 11:00AM with Pastor Debbie Gibbons officiating. Entombment will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park.
The family wishes to thank Pastor Debbie, the caring staff at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center, and the many friends who have shown care to Elaine and her family.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
