Edward A. Bayer passed away on December 31, 2014.
Ed was born September 6, 1928, to parents Joseph and Elizabeth Bayer in Akron. After graduating from high school, Ed served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, often described as the "Forgotten War." He was a receipient of the Bronze Star. Upon his return from service to his country, Ed returned to Akron where he, along with his fraternal twin brother, Frank, managed the family business, Bayers Beverages, until it was sold in 1968.
While working, Ed managed to earn his undergraduate degree from the University of Akron in just three years, and then went on to graduate from the Case Western Reserve School of Law. Ed was admitted to the Ohio State Bar on October 11, 1961. He practiced law for many years with the firm of Kaufmann and Kaufmann and later served as an Akron Municipal Court judge, and as a Magistrate in the Summit County Probate Court, a job Ed truly loved. He was a member of the Akron Bar Association, as well as the Ohio State Bar Association. Ed also served on the Board of Directors of Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, for over ten years - never missing a meeting of the Board.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Georgene, to whom he was married for over 58 years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Judge Frank J. Bayer.
Ed described Georgene as the "most devoted wife, friend and companion a man could ever have." Ed and Georgene are members of the The Chapel.
A special thanks and gratitude to Dr. Kanubhai R. Patel, the staff at Summa Barberton Hospital and Hospice on Ridgewood for their loving care and support.
There will be no calling hours. Private entombment with military honors will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park. Donations may be made in Ed's memory to the Edward & C.
