Edward " Ed " R. Fender

Edward “Ed” R. Fender, 85, of Akron passed away August 11, 2019. He was the son of George and Sarah Fender.

Ed worked for General Tire for 43 years. He started in the mail room and worked his way to manager of the off-road tires. He became a world-renowned expert in the giant tires. Ed enjoyed woodworking and shared his talents with the Akron community and family. He also used his talents to build his “rooooms” He built several pieces of furniture at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and worked on Habit for Humanity homes.

Ed was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church including a member of the Men and Boys Choir throughout his youth. Some singing highlights included performing at the Ford/Firestone wedding and the consecration of the new church. Ed was known as “Chief” by his family and friends. Ed was an avid sports fan and passionate about his local sports teams in Cleveland and Akron. He also loved to listen to bagpiper music reminding him of his Scottish and English heritage.

Ed was preceded in death by parents; sisters, Shirley, Elizabeth “Jean” Watson and Gwen Sinibaldi.

Ed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred “Jean” (Kozy); brother, George “Tom”; children, Ed, Bill (Nanette Dimoff) and Lisa Scarr (Jim); grandchildren, Cassandra (Jason), Melissa (Thanasi), Nick, Stefan, Shae, Allie, and Brandon; great grandchildren, Sophia and Marco and brother in-law Frank Sinibaldi.

Calling hours will be from 6-8 p.m. THURSDAY, August 15 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Akron, OH 44333. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. FRIDAY at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St. Akron, 44313. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s. Services in care of The Billow Funeral Homes & Crematory, 85 N. Miller Road, Akron, OH 44333. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
