Edward Charles Stein passed away early Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Akron General Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service surrounded by his family.
Edward was born to Edward Sydney and Isabella Catherine (Koenig) Stein on May 2, 1947 in Allentown, PA. He was raised by Alleen Edna (Fryman) Stein, whom he knew as "Mom", due to Isabella's passing at Edward's birth. His grandparents were Edward D. and Minnie Stein, Rex and Allie Fryman, and Charles and Estella Koenig.
During his childhood, he was a member of DeMolay where he was president and received the Degree of Chevalier. Ed graduated from Revere High School in 1965. He received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Akron in 1970 where he was a member of the Lone Star fraternity.
Edward enjoyed working and made many life-long friends in the electric utility industry. He started with Ohio Edison in 1970 as a junior engineer, became the Superintendent of System Control in Wadsworth for Ohio Edison and retired in 2009 as Director of Solutions for FirstEnergy Solutions. He developed Power Coach with EPRI, co-wrote an IEEE paper on the operation of power plants and sat on ECAR's Reliability Council. Edward was a creative writer and thinker and a published poet. He enjoyed gardening, burning weeds, and riding 4-wheelers at the Hiram farm. He was a compassionate and caring husband, father, and grandfather.
Edward leaves his dearly loved wife of 44 years, Linda; son Edward (Catherine), son Jason, daughter Heather (Eddy) Wurm; grandchildren Alex, Meghan, and Zachary Stein, Cadyn, Austin, and Isabella Wurm; brothers Rex (Beth) Stein and Paul (Barbara) Stein; and several nephews.
A special thank-you to the Akron General Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service for their love and support of the family and the caring treatment of Edward.
Friends and family will be received at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., from 1-3PM on Saturday, June 7, 2014 where services will be held at 3PM. Burial will take place at Moore's Chapel Cemetery.
