Edwin A. Gruneich passed away at Rockynol Retirement Community on Dec. 6, at the age of 95.
He was born Nov. 10, 1914 on a farm south of Kulm, N. D. He was the oldest of four children. His parents were first generation Americans, who in their outlook believed in the philosophy of hard work, and shared in the feeling of confidence and expansiveness of the 19th century.
Mr. Gruneich received his B.A. degree from Minot State Teacher's College in 1939. He earned an M.Div degree from Evangelical Theological Seminary in Naperville, Illinois. He was ordained as a minister in 1937, and served Presbyterian churches in six upper Midwest states. His ministerial career spanned 41 years. In addition to ministry, at various times he operated a farm, taught high school German and Algebra, and ran a successful TV repair business.
In 1939 he was married to Aneta L. Schindler who died in 2000. The couple enjoyed a 61 year marriage and had four children, Grant Mary Gruneich, Rev. John Sandy Gruneich, Gene Mary Jo Gruneich and Carolee Dan Ketelaar. His extended family includes 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 19th at Rockynol Carrell Center with Chaplain Diane Walker officiating. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
Mr. Gruneich, as a product of the American pioneer west was independent and self-reliant in his attitude towards life, theology and politics. One of his favorite scriptures was John 8:32: "Know the truth and the truth will make you free."
