Edythe Mae Stevenson

May 17, 1922 — November 26, 2021

Edythe Mae Stevenson, 99, passed with her family at her side and went home to be with the Lord on November 26, 2021.

Born in Centerville, PA in 1922 to Guy and Ethelyn Horne, she graduated from Centerville HS and received a BS in Secretarial Studies from Carnegie Mellon. Edythe met her husband William in high school. After they both graduated from college, he enlisted in the Navy to serve during World War II and they married on the Navy Pier in Chicago. She worked as a secretary in Chicago and a teacher in Centerville until they moved to the Akron area for Bill’s career at Goodyear. Here they built a life and family together, and she stayed home to raise four children. Edythe treasured spending time with her family, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s school concerts and sports events, dining out with friends, and traveling. She and her husband drove all over the United States, sometimes with a camper in tow. As they got older they enjoyed traveling internationally, even taking the whole family on a Caribbean cruise for their 50th wedding anniversary. She sang alto in church choir and played piano at home, encouraging family members to sing along. Going to the movies was enjoyed from childhood on. She liked musicals and romantic comedies, and when asked would say James Garner and Cary Grant were her favorites. She was a fan of all the local sports teams, and the Cleveland Indians had a special place in her heart. And she loved to shop, she said that was how she got her exercise. Everyone that met Edythe remarked how sweet she was-she was always smiling and was just a joy to be around.

Preceded in death by her husband William, granddaughter Jenny Cleveland, and granddaughter-in-law Jessica. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Gary (Linda), Craig (Sue), Karen Baker, Shari (Jim) Warzlow; grandchildren Brian (Boni), Brad (Sherry), Barry (Lisa), Krista (Carl) Jacques, Josh (Megan) and eleven great-grandchildren. Edythe was a longtime member of St. John and St. Jacobs Lutheran Churches.

A private service will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. To Share a Memory, Leave a Condolence, or Light a Candle, visit the Tribute Wall at www.billowfuneralhomes.com (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
