Elaine E. Young

Elaine Young completed her earthly journey July 22, 2017. She was born August 19, 1940 in Danville, Ohio.

After graduation from Danville High School, she attended Kent State University, earning a History Degree in 1962. While attending Kent she met her future husband, Jerry. They married on June 10, 1962. Daughters Diana and Paula soon joined the family.

Elaine's priorities were always the same: family first and contributing to the community second, with lots of fun thrown in.

Elaine was an active volunteer for the Western Reserve Girl Scout Council, Girl Scouts/USA, Summit County Historical Society, Women's History Project, Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron where she was a longtime member, and WEYE radio reading service for the sight impaired. A published author, Elaine was one of those special people who worked quietly and without fanfare, never expecting recognition for her efforts.

Elaine is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jerry; daughters, Diana Garver (Larry) and Paula Knott; grandsons, Douglas and Joe Knott, sister-in-law, Betty Young; nieces, Laura Nonnenmacher (Mark) and Ellen Verbsky (Matt) and nephew, Robert Edgar (Cammie). She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Betty Edgar and brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Nola Edgar.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the staffs of Hospice of the VNS and Greenfield Estates for the superb care they provided Elaine, especially during the last month.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Lorie Lerner 3 P.M. SATURDAY, July 29th at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Friends may call Saturday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service begins. Private inurnment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
