Eleanor Josephine Detweiler D'Amico, 79, of Akron passed away Friday, October 8, 2010.
Eleanor was born in Akron on November 28, 1930 and lived most of her life here devoted to her husband, Robert for nearly 60 years of marriage. Her tireless effort to contact an Ohio Congressman brought home her Marine from the Korean War. While away from him for over a year, she wrote play-by-play action of the Cleveland Indians games for him to read before returning home from war.
Devoted to her family, Eleanor's Italian heritage was evident in her cooking and the importance of family dinners. While at Garfield High School, she was a majorette, played piano, participated in dance and performing arts. Her tap dance was heard on a local radio station. Her caring nature was reflected in her love of growing flowers and listening to music. She was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church.
Eleanor assisted many students and professors in their research for 27 years at the University of Akron's Auburn Science and Technology Library. Eleanor was loved by all and will be remembered always.
