Eleanor (Ellie) Frantz

Eleanor (Ellie) Frantz passed away peacefully on January 26, 2022 at her residence at Laurel Lake in Hudson, OH. She was 97 years old.

Born Eleanor Marguerite Godard on April 27, 1924, in Akron OH, Ellie was the eldest child of Clara and Jewell (J.W.) Godard. Ellie graduated from Buchtel High School in Akron, OH and earned a degree in English at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware OH where she was member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority.

Ellie met Earl R. Frantz in an evening business class at the University of Akron. They were married six months later, on March 6, 1948. They soon made their home in Cuyahoga Falls, raising 3 children and establishing many close bonds throughout the community.  Ellie loved spending time visiting her family and hosting large family events. They were members of Silver Lake Country Club and enjoyed travelling with friends. Ellie and Earl were married for 56 years before Earl succumbed to Parkinson’s Disease in 2004. Ellie was a supportive caregiver to Earl for their last years together.

Ellie was a working member of many service clubs and organizations including Witan, Florence Crittenton Home, and the Parkinson’s Disease Assoc., all of Akron. She also volunteered for decades at Akron General (Women’s Board past treasurer). Later in life, Ellie made new friends by joining the quilters’ group at her church, First United Methodist of Cuyahoga Falls.

Ellie was an avid bridge player and particularly enjoyed the challenge of Duplicate Bridge. She also loved doing crossword puzzles, reading, and watching Jeopardy!

Ellie will be sadly missed by her children, Eleanor (George) Harris, Barbara (Michael) Poulsen, and Bill (Jenny) Frantz. Ellie leaves behind her grandchildren Charles Harris, Katherine (Carl) Orthoerfer, Marjorie Harris, Andrew (Jessica) Poulsen, David Poulsen, Collin (Erica) Frantz, Corey Frantz, and Ryan (Rachel) Jun. Ellie also has 7 great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by both of her parents, her husband Earl R. Frantz who she loved deeply, her sister Marjorie Kuespert, brothers Richard D. Godard and Porter Godard.

There will be no calling hours and the family will be having a private funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkinson’s Disease Association – Akron Chapter or Akron General Medical Center.
