Elinor Dawn McDonald passed away July 13, 2014. She was born in Burke, S.D. on May 9, 1915 the third child of Julius and Meda Johnson.
Elinor is survived by her sister, Helen Miller of Igo, CA, her daughter Kathleen (Jack) Smith, of Houston TX, son Lawrence (Karen) of Copley, OH, daughter in law Debra of Fredericksburg VA, grandchildren Mike and Erin Smith of TX, John, Jesse, and Rebecca McDonald of VA, Jason McDonald of OH and Ryan McDonald of CA and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Elinor was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years Owen, her son John, her sisters' Violet, Lela, Vivian, Evelyn, and her brothers Marvin, Harley and Van.
She was an elementary school teacher. She began her teaching career on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota and ended as a first grade teacher at St. Mary's Catholic School in Alexandria, VA.
She was active in the Mount Vernon Ladies Association, Garden Club, Book Clubs and volunteered at Mount Vernon hospital.
She will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery in a private ceremony.
