Elizabeth (Heckel) Faulkner

September 20, 1928 — June 25, 2018

Elizabeth Faulkner passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on June 25, 2018.
Liz was a determined, self-sufficient woman who was very thoughtful, loving and caring. Those traits carried her into her last day on this earth when she made a conscious decision not to have a very significant surgery.

Liz was born on September 20, 1928 in Hungary. She immigrated to the United States with her parents in 1929. She took her first steps on the ship during the crossing and processed through Ellis Island. Liz was the big sister to 3 ornery brothers, born to John and Elizabeth (Hohl) Heckel. While at Central High School, Liz began her 34 year career with the M. O'Neil Company (Macy's). She held various office positions, retiring as Secretary to the Controller. Several years after retirement, she went back into the workforce as an office manager for apartment management and construction companies. On June 2, 1956, Liz married Jim Faulkner. They lived a wonderful, happy and fun life in Barberton, Ohio, enjoying friends, dancing and traveling until Jim's passing in 1979. Liz then went on to live a very responsible and independent life, continuing to enjoy ballroom and square dancing, travel and bridge at the Barberton Senior Center.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Richard and John Heckel. She is survived by her youngest sibling, Frank (Jerilynn Ferguson) Heckel, as well as cousins and relatives of the Heckel, Bauer, and Hohl families, with whom she enjoyed many family picnics and get togethers when they were younger. She is also survived by goddaughters, Karen Durland-Jones, daughter of Ann (Heckel) and Bill Jones and Linda Lance, daughter of Ann and Louie Bauer. Having no children of her own, Liz had a very special place in her heart for her nieces, Christy (Craig Hart) Heckel and Teresa (Gary) Lindsey, and her grand nephews, Hunter and Zachary Hart and Nicholas Lindsey. She was very proud of each one of them, and always enjoyed hearing about their accomplishments. Some of her last words to us were about her grand nephews.
