Elizabeth "Becky" Hanna

Elizabeth "Becky" Johnson Hanna passed away at the age of 62, on Friday, February 3, 2017, in Akron, Ohio. She was surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Johnson Jr. of Grosse Pointe, MI.

After receiving a nursing degree from the University of Vermont, she was married to David Hanna and moved to Akron, Ohio in 1979 where she worked as a nurse and Lamaze instructor before starting her family. Becky had a great love for snow skiing and volunteered many years on ski patrol at Boston Mills Brandywine Ski Resort. She was an active member of The Akron Garden Club and Junior League. She was also a member of The National Society Colonial Dames of America and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. In 2007 Becky moved to Winter Park, Florida where she was a member of the Greater Orlando Junior League Transfer Sustainer Group, the Orlando Museum Council of 101 and a member of the Winter Park Racquet Club.

Becky enjoyed spending summers at the family's cottage in Leland, MI and was a member of the Leland Country Club. Becky loved gardening, water sports and time spent with her dog, family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Timothy D. Hanna, of Louisville, KY; her daughter, Whitney Hanna Balmert (Adam) of Winter Park, FL; her grandson, Tucker Daniel Balmert and granddaughter, Harper Lee Balmert of Winter Park, FL. She is also survived by a brother, Dr. Charles B. Johnson, Jr. (Marjorie) of Worthington, MA; and sisters, Deborah Johnson Gillespie (David) of Bloomfield Hills, MI, and Sibley Johnson Arnebeck (Clifford) of Columbus, OH.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2017 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Becky's honor may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the American Lung Association, The Leelanau Conservancy or a charity of your choice.
