Elizabeth Jean Haynes, 93, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on March 20, 2017.
She was born on February 10, 1924, the youngest of five children to James and Della Council, in Auburn, KY and was raised in Clarksville, TN. In August 1939, Jean was crowned Miss Junior Tennessee and won a trip to the New York World's Fair. In 1942, she married her high school sweetheart, (the late) James B. Haynes. During WWII, Jean worked in the circulation department and as a model for local feature stories at the Miami Daily News. After the war, Jim and Jean relocated to Ohio. Throughout her career she worked as a receptionist, secretary, bookkeeper, and realtor. In 1951, Jean gave birth to their beloved daughter, Karen Jean in Lancaster, OH. The family relocated to Tallmadge, OH in 1962. Jean was a member of the All Breed Training Club of Akron. The whole family enjoyed raising and showing dogs together. Jean loved returning to Clarksville, TN each summer to reunite with her mother, siblings, and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was always a warm and loving presence in the lives of her daughter, Karen Haynes Albrecht and her grandchildren, Ryan (Elizabeth DeShong) and Kiel (Katie Schwarz) Albrecht. She was also deeply involved in her community: serving on multiple condo boards, teaching stretching exercises and yoga to aging adults, volunteering with The Salvation Army, attending Sunday school, and always helping her friends and those in need. In recent years, Jean enjoyed playing with her great-grandchildren, Liliana and Oliver; following current events; and playing dominos and cards with her friends at Rockynol.
Her family wishes to thank Dr. Sabin and Ohio Family Practice, Rockynol assisted living nurses and aides, and Ohio Living Hospice for the loving care they gave to Jean.
A Celebration of Life will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform an act of kindness in Jean's honor. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
