Elizabeth "Betsy" Born Hosbach, 75, passed away February 28, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 20, 1941, Elizabeth spent the majority of her childhood in Wauwatosa, WI. After moving to Bath, she graduated from Revere High School in 1959. She graduated from Kent State University in 1963 with a degree in early childhood education. At KSU she was a member of Cardinal Key Honorary and was recognized with the Margaret W. Davis Award for Early Childhood Education majors. She then pursued her passion for teaching, first in Monroe, Michigan, then in Akron Public Schools and Copley Schools. Elizabeth took time off to have a family, and then taught at Johnson's Corners Preschool for several years. Following that, she worked at the national setting of the United Church of Christ in Cleveland, OH, until 2013. She also volunteered at the Western Reserve/Eastern Ohio Conference regional office of the UCC in Cuyahoga Falls, OH.
Betsy was led by the strength of her faith and was always upbeat, forward-looking, and positive thinking. She always showed a genuine interest in others, inspired all who knew her, and never allowed her medical issues to dampen her spirit. Betsy enjoyed spending time with her family, growing and tending beautiful flowers, watching birds, camping with family, and being involved in her church, The Bath UCC.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jean Born and in-laws, Herbert and Edna Hosbach. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Arnold "Arne" Hosbach, and children, John (Georgiann) Hosbach, Anne (Keith) Dougherty, and James (Gretchen) Hosbach, as well as grandchildren, Rebecca and Christian Hosbach, Matthew and Hannah Dougherty, and Andrew and Kelby Hosbach. She is also survived by step-mother-in-law, Wilma (Art) Hannah; siblings, John Born, Ellen (Don) Lane, and Janet (Rich) Lyman; nephews, Jason (Michele) Born, Daniel Lane, Jack Lyman, Richard Lyman; niece, Meriwether Lyman; grand-nephews, Ian and Colin Born; and numerous cousins on both sides of her family.
