Elizabeth Ellen Perkins

Elizabeth Ellen Savidant Perkins Betty, 86, passed away October 7, 2010.

Betty was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to James William and Ethel Gertrude Savidant. After graduation from high school, she became a legal secretary. During World War II, she worked for the Canadian government in the war related department. She later was a secretary at McGill Universities Alumni Dept. following which she was employed by executives of the insurance industry.

Betty met her husband to be Walter in Bermuda, where both happened to be on vacation. Overcoming a long courtship they were married in Montreal in 1956, whereupon Betty became a resident of Copley. She soon became active at Westminster Presbyterian Church, as a deaconess and office volunteer. She also volunteered at Stan Hywet and was awarded one of the coveted "cowbell" medallions and was an active member of AM Chapter of PEO, until being side lined by illness. As time permitted she worked as a "temp" and was called on by a number of Akron based offices.

Preceded in death by her parents, brother, John; and sisters, Florence and Ruth. She is survived by husband, Walter; son, Colin Mary; sister in law, Gail; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1250 W. Exchange St., Akron 44313 with Rev. Derek Starr Redwine officiating. Cremation has taken place. Should friends desire memorials may be made to Hospice of VNS, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, OH 44333 or Westminster Presbyterian Church.
