Elma Arlene Gsellman

May 11, 1917 — November 13, 2010

Elma was called home by her Savior on November 13 at the age of 93.

She was born on May 11, 1917 in Marshallville, Ohio to Noah and Anna Musser and raised on a farm with her seven sisters and one brother. Elma married Richard Andrew Gsellman in 1936 and raised three children in Akron, moving to Wadsworth in 1968.

Elma was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and School, and a great friend of Fairlawn Lutheran Church and School in her later years. She was employed by B. F. Goodrich Chemical for 25 years, retiring in 1980. She was a devoted Christian and, next to Christ, loved her husband and family more than anything else.

Elma was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; brother, Harold, and sisters, Evelyn Curtis, Esther Hartzler, Annabelle Linnen and Mary Ellen Bolt. Survivors include, sisters, Helen Nelson Berger, Ruth Bond and Ruby Wilbur Benner; her children, Larry Jan Gsellman of Reston, Va., Donna Herman Gercke of Berlin Heights, Ohio and Ronald Lee Ellen Gsellman of Medina, Ohio; in-laws, Gene Donna Gsellman and Mary Gsellman. She also leaves twelve grandchildren and twenty five great-grandchildren; extended family and many friends.

Elma used her creative talents as a gardener, seamstress, pie baker and craftsperson to bless her family and others. Her jewel-toned irises live on in many, many gardens.

A special thanks is extended to the clergy and care givers from Zion and Fairlawn Lutheran, her sisters, family and friends along with the Copley Health Center staff and Visiting Nurse Service who lovingly attended Elma.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated for Zion Lutheran Church, Braille Ministry of Fairlawn Lutheran Church or Lutheran Hour Ministries. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, November 26, 2010 at Fairlawn Lutheran Church.
