Elmer J. Guran died in Akron, OH March 20, 2018.
He was born in Akron, OH on February 12, 1928, son of Mathew B. and Maria Kuska Guran. Elmer graduated from Akron Central High School, Cornell University: Bachelor of Architecture, and the University of Pittsburgh: Master of Urban and Regional Planning. He married Marice Anne Deming, a Cornell classmate, in 1949. He practiced architecture and city planning from New York to Minnesota to Philadelphia to opening his own practice in Akron in 1959. He returned to the family business, M.B. Guran Company in 1967, retiring from there as president in 1998. Elmer and his wife Marice traveled to every state in the U.S. and all the Canadian provinces. They moved to Ormond Beach, FL in 2000 and returned to Akron in March of 2018. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, Ormond Beach, serving on Church Council and Chairman of the Building Committee.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Andrew and William; his daughter, Margaret L.; and one grandson. He is survived by his wife, Marice; sons, John M. and Paul E.; and daughter, Barbara S.; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, 2726 W. Market St., Fairlawn, with Rev. Jean Hansen officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 2010 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
