AKRON, Ohio -- Erma Page Dochat, 95, of Sumner on Ridgewood, died Thursday, December 30, 2010 after a brief illness.
Born on May 31, 1915, in Williamsport, Pa., she was the daughter of Robert and Sarah Page. Her mother died two months later, and her father died before she turned 12. She was then raised by her oldest brother, James Page, and his wife, Katherine.
She graduated from Williamsport Area High School in 1933, and was trained as a nurse at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa. While working there, she met her husband, George R. Dochat, who was a resident at Geisinger.
They were married on Sept. 19, 1939 in Williamsport. They honeymooned in Niagara Falls, and then traveled to Minnesota where Dr. Dochat began a three-year study program at the Mayo Clinic.
They moved to Akron, Ohio, in 1942 where he was hired as the chief pathologist at what is now the Akron General Medical Center.
She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Altar Guild. She volunteered for a number of organizations.
She is survived by one son, Thomas A. of Harrisburg, Pa.; four grandsons and four granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and a dear daughter-in-law and confidant, Sheri Dochat of Ely, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 64 years, George R. Dochat; a daughter, Carol Sions; two sons, George R. Jr. and Kenneth E.; an infant son, Robert, and her seven siblings.
Service will be held 2 p.m. TUESDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. Peter Mills officiating. Viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until time of services.
