Evelyn (Eve) Mckinstry Wagner

June 7, 1931 — August 21, 2012

Evelyn (Eve) McKinstry Wagner, 81, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 amidst her beloved family in Tallmadge, Ohio. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Richard Steiner Wagner.

Born in Blairsville, Pennsylvania, Eve was the daughter of Evelyn Smyers McKinstry and Thompson Alexander McKinstry. When she was 4 years old, her family moved to Akron where she attended Rankin and Portage Path elementary schools and graduated from Buchtel High School in 1949. Eve graduated from The University of Akron in 1953 with a B.S. in English Literature and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Eve's love of literature led her to attend the Carnegie Tech School of Library Science in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, graduating with a Master's Degree in Library Science in 1954.

Eve was employed by the Akron Summit County Public Library beginning as a Page in high school and college days and retiring in 1991 as Coordinator of Children's Services. She truly had a lifelong love affair with books.

On April 16, 1955, she was married to Richard Steiner Wagner at Westminster Presbyterian Church. In the coming years, they were blessed with four children: Douglas S. (Peggy) Wagner of Akron, Kristen E. Wagner of Akron, Richard T. Wagner of Houston, Texas and Donald R. Wagner of Independence, Kentucky. Eve and Dick have six wonderful grandchildren: Molly, Marnie and Charlie Wagner, Kaity Wagner, Sasha Wagner and Cole Wagner.

Other than her love for her family, Eve's interests included golf and cruising. She was an avid knitter, specializing in afghans which adorn the homes of her children and grandchildren. She was also known for eating out, specializing in anything chocolate.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at New Covenant Community Church, 2095 West Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44313. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Covenant Community Church in Eve's memory.
