Fern I Tobin

Fern I. Tobin, 101, died April 20, 2014.

Born in Elizabeth, W. VA, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Akron where she was the Sunday School Superintendent for a couple of years. She was a member of Witan and Firestone Country Club over 25 years serving as chairman of the ladies division, and was president of Voris School PTA. Her husband, Paul, who was a scratch golfer, spent over 10 years teaching Fern to golf and then she became club champion at Mt. Glenn Country Club in Newland, NC where she was chairman of the ladies division and secretary/treasurer of the Home Owners Association. She retired from Polsky's Department Store in the better dresses department.

Preceded in death by husband, Paul and daughter, Paula Richards; she is survived by daughters, Sally Jo (Jim) Alkire and Laura (Albert) Cook; 10 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Merriman for their loving care.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Dr. David A. Baker officiating. Friends may call 1 hour before services. Entombment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Fern and Paul Tobin Memorial Fund at First United Methodist Church of Akron, 263 E. Mill St., Akron 44308.
